Father, Forgive Them…

Does God love us only when we’re good? The obvious answer is, “No”. If He loved the world so much that He gave His only Son up to die a horribly cruel death to pay for our sin (and He did; see John 3:16), then we know He doesn’t love us because we’re good (See Romans 5:8 also). But Jesus had the remedy for sin long before we knew how badly we needed it.

Jesus prays for us. It is reasonable to assume He prayed for us all those times He went off alone to be with His Father; we know He prayed specifically for us immediately before His death (see John 17:20); during His death (see Luke 23:34); and He prays for us now (see Hebrews 7:25).

He knows how sin-prone even the best are, and HE IS FOR US!! Does that mean He doesn’t discipline us? No, again it is His LOVE in action that corrects us.

ALL must turn from sin to Jesus, because ALL sin (see Romans 3:23). It is God’s mercy that allows us to come to the end of ourselves in order to bring us to Him.

It is true that God’s wrath will be poured out on the earth at a future time that is drawing closer and closer. This will be reserved for unrepentant souls – those who have not trusted in Jesus Christ – who will receive the full extent of His wrath. Because they didn’t accept His payment for the penalty of their sin, they will suffer the wrath of God for it. It will be horrible! These will also suffer in hell for eternity for rejecting His Son, Jesus Christ.

He is praying for you now. Will you trust Him?
