CALL TO PRAYER

PRAYING FOR OUR COUNTRY

We recognize our beloved country is in trouble, and God is the only One Who can help us. You are encouraged to use this prayer guide to pray for America. (I have divided it into days, but use all or part as works with your particular prayer plan.)

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

A prayer of the prophet Habakkuk, with orchestra: God, I’ve heard what our ancestors say about you, and I’m stopped in my tracks, down on my knees. Do among us what you did among them. Work among us as you worked among them. And as you bring judgment, as you surely must, remember mercy.
Habakkuk 3:1‭-‬2 MSG

Father, we are on our knees before You. We’ve heard the stories, and seen the miraculous things You have done in our country. We acknowledge that it was Your Mighty Hand that established this country as a haven for all those who would worship You without fear. We also acknowledge that we have been negligent in safeguarding what You gave, too busy looking after our own lives to pay attention. Many of us have been spectators and selfish with what You gave. We realize our error, and beg Your forgiveness!

Jesus said, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”(Matthew 7:7-8) By faith in His wonderful Name, we ask, and will keep on asking, that You look with favor on this country that has done so much good, and we confess, has also done great evil in Your sight.

I confess my personal sins of ________________________________________. I repent, and turn from them, by Your mercy and grace.

Father in heaven, I pray for my city and county government. This includes councilmen and mayor, judges, and all officials. I ask that You would turn their eyes toward You, and help them to make wise decisions, in the best interests of the area residents. We ask that all things would be done “decently and in order” (1 Cor. 14:40), and that true justice would prevail. In the coming elections, we ask for only Your will to be done. Please give us wisdom and discernment to vote for the best people to fill the positions. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, amen.

You are encouraged to find out who these people are for your area, and pray for them by name.

Day Two

If you prefer to listen, click the link to hear the podcast. https://anchor.fm/vicki-ryder/episodes/Day-Two-ek6h6l

What should I bring before the Lord when I come to bow before God on high? Should I come before him with burnt offerings, with year-old calves? Would the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams or with ten thousand streams of oil? Should I give my firstborn for my transgression, the offspring of my body for my own sin?

Mankind, he has told each of you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:6‭-‬8 CSB

Father, our hearts are broken, and we are ashamed of the laws that we know are despicable to You. The continuing war on helpless babies is anything but merciful, and they have a Mighty Defender! We confess America’s sin, and our own complicity, either by silence or by electing people who support such things. Because we have not worked hard enough against the slaughter of precious babies made in Your image. Please forgive us, and restore justice and mercy to our state and national governments.

“Do not permit any of your children to be offered as a sacrifice to Molech, for you must not bring shame on the name of your God. I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 18:21) O Lord, even basic decency tells us it is not okay to rip little ones from their mama’s wombs, viciously destroying them. The sale of their body parts is disgusting and unacceptable! We ask you to convict the men and women who participate in this and stop its practice. Please help us to use the power of our votes to end it once for all!

I confess my personal sins of ____________________________. I repent, and turn from them, by Your mercy and grace.

(If you have had an abortion you now regret, true repentance will bring real forgiveness.)

Father in heaven, I pray for my state government, and ask that only laws that agree with Your Law would be enacted. Please forgive us for having hardened hearts that have allowed this to continue. O Lord, we ask Your divine mercy and grace to be able to root out this great sin, loving the Lord our God with everything we have. Help us as we work to eradicate it, and help that we would love others as we love ourselves. This includes babies… mothers…legislators…governors… health professionals…and anyone else involved. Help us to hold officials responsible for what they do on our behalf.

You are encouraged to find out who these people are for your area, and pray for them by name.

Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. “Come now, let’s settle this,”says the Lord.“Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow:. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. Isaiah 1:17-18

Our Father, with our faces to the ground, we acknowledge that the elderly, people of color, those who are disabled, or economically disadvantaged – the “oppressed” – are many times not given the respect and equal treatment they deserve. We recognize that this is grievous in Your sight. We know we are each created by You, loved by You, and not one of us is better than another. Forgive the wrongs done and the justice denied to people Your Son, Jesus, died for! Help us to go out of our way to see that they are loved and cherished, as a reflection of Your great love.

Because I love Zion, I will not keep still. Because my heart yearns for Jerusalem, I cannot remain silent. I will not stop praying for her until her righteousness shines like the dawn, and her salvation blazes like a burning torch. Isaiah 62:1 O Lord, our hearts yearn for America, this land that we love. We ask, because of Your great mercy, to forgive our sin, and heal our land of injustice of every kind. We want our hearts to be pure before You, ready for loving fellowship with You and those around us.

I confess my personal sins of ____________________________. I repent, and turn from them, by Your mercy and grace.

Our Father in heaven, We lift our federal government to You, with the good in it, as well as the corruption that is an affront to You. We pray for each official in Washington, D.C. They are accountable to You, Lord. Please make them aware of this, and return government to the people, by the people, and for the people. We ask that laws would be enacted that would be fair to everyone, in the precious Name of Jesus our Savior, amen.

The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?” But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. The Lord examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates those who love violence. Psalm 11:3-5 NLT

Father, our country is in great turmoil. Where the law is not enforced, anarchy and great harm to peaceful citizens is supported. Where police officers use their badges illegally, great harm is done to individuals, and to trust needed for the many good officers to do their jobs. Where protesters and rioters interfere with people trying to go to work and carry on with their lives, life is chaotic. Officers must always be accountable for their actions, and we ask that you would give those responsible the wisdom to make good and fair changes to what is required and allowed. Please give officers the fortitude, wisdom, and compassion they need to make a positive difference in the communities they serve, as well as come home safely at the end of their shift. We confess that we have failed to make a difference in the lives of citizens who need it. We ask for officials who will protect the cities and states they are paid to govern, and to demand accountability of everyone. Please forgive us where we have failed.

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. Romans 13:1 NLT We mourn members of law enforcement who have been executed while trying to do their jobs and help people. Please come to our aid and restore sanity and peace. Your word says, “So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?” Luke 18:7-8

I confess my personal sins of ________________. I repent, and turn from them, by Your mercy and grace.

Our Father, We lift our members of law enforcement to You. Their job is never easy, and now it is much more difficult. We ask that You give them extraordinary wisdom to carry out their duties in the manner that pleases You. Thank You, thank You for all the diligent officers who help keep us safe. Please keep them safe from harm. We ask that justice would prevail and respect for the rule of law would be restored. In the Holy Name of Jesus, amen.

Let all that I am praise the Lord ; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord ; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
Psalms 103:1‭-‬6 NLT

Our Father, We praise You for Your faithfulness to us, and to America. You are El Shaddai, Lord God Almighty. Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. Jehovah Rapha, our Healer. Jehovah Raah, the Lord our Shepherd. Jehovah Tsidkenu, the Lord our Righteousness. Jehovah Mekaddishkem, the Lord Who sanctifies us. You are the great I AM! We praise You, our Lord and Master, Adonai.

So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on. As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. “Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord ! Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!” But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, “Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!” He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”
Luke 19:35‭-‬40 NLT

Jesus, our Redeemer, we praise You for . . .

I confess my personal sins of ____________________________. I repent, and turn from them, by Your mercy and grace.

Our Father, We are in awe of You. Not Santa Claus or a colossal Genie, You are the omniscient, omnipresent, everlasting God Who …

Decided to free His children from slavery, and on top of other outrageous miracles, rolled the sea back so the children of Israel could walk through on dry land!

Felled a giant with one stone from David’s sling in answer to his courageous question, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine who dares defy the Armies of the Living God??”

Answered Hannah’s faith with a baby boy, the prophet Samuel

Sent fire from heaven in answer to Elijah’s prayer on Mount Carmel

Many other awe-inspiring miracles performed on behalf of Your Great Name and Your children.

If that were not enough, to save us from ourselves, You sent our Savior Jesus Christ to an humble maiden who birthed the Son of God in a stable, his first lullabies sung by barn animals!

This was the Savior who later proclaimed, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”

We bow low before You and praise Your holy Name, in the Mighty Name of Jesus, Who makes it possible for Your Holy Spirit to reside in us also.

Thank Him for:

Jesus Christ, King of kings, and Lord of lords!

America, land that we love

Freedoms we hold dear

Families we cherish

Friends and neighbors

Day Six

It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.
James 3:6 MSG

Our Father, we praise you for Your great mercy toward us. We exalt Your holy Name. With absolute, unlimited power You hold back Your hand from unleashing judgment on America. We lift the Name of Your beautiful Son, Jesus Christ, whom we adore, and Who is worthy, worthy, worthy! We confess that we have taken far too much for granted, and chased the wrong things at times in our pursuit of “the American dream”. Where we have given others control over educating our children, and thrown out biblical, time-tested values in favor of ungodly ones, please forgive us. The pot that is now boiling over on the stove finally has our full attention. Please forgive our sin, and heal our land…

Father in heaven, We lift our news media to You. Filled with lies and half-truths, it is difficult for the average person to make an informed decision, and turns us against each other. Help us, as the body of Christ in America, to practice real discernment. We want to base our opinions and decisions only on Your truth. And Father, help us to lead with love, remembering that You said, “But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!” Mt. 5:44 NLT This is how they will really know we are Christians – by our love. In Jesus’ Name

Day Seven

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This night your soul will be required of you. Then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So is he who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
Luke 12:20‭-‬21 MEV

Our Father,  We are grieved at the materialism that has taken over our country, and the greed that resides in our own hearts. We recognize this as the idolatry it is, and humbly repent of it. Please forgive us for hoarding what You have so graciously allowed us to have. Forgive us for closing our eyes and ears to “the least of these”, and for failing to love them as we love ourselves. Help us to be better stewards of resources,  realizing there are many who don’t even have clothes or food enough, through no fault of their own. May we remember that You said whatever we do for them, we do for You, our precious Lord Who gave everything for us.

I confess my personal sins of ____________________________. I repent, and turn from them, by Your mercy and grace.

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:10

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? I John 3:17

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5

Lord God, We repent for allowing our hearts to go after other gods – shiny, new things that turn our hearts from You. Forgive us for gathering wealth for ourselves without sharing with Your children in need. We know it is sin and a form of idolatry to pat ourselves on the back for what we have, instead of giving all glory to You. Please forgive us.
