…never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead.

Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. (Italics mine)

It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. But you must be blameless before the Lord your God. The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things.”
Deuteronomy 18:10‭-‬14 NLT

God forbade His people to sacrifice their children. There is much that could be said here about the parallel between ancient child sacrifice and abortion. The saline solution sometimes used to kill children in the womb burns their lungs and skin, causing death. Is it not obvious that abortion and the occult have one and the same source?

Our purpose today is not to focus on abortion though, detestable as it is, but on the larger subject, which is the occult. Expressly forbidden by God in all its forms.

Why?

Satan made himself the enemy of God when he rebelled against Him and took 1/3 of the angels in heaven with him to fight against God. Of course, he lost. He is the polar opposite of God, and tries to counterfeit everything God does. Where God is Light, Satan is dark. God is Truth. Satan is the father of lies. God is Love. Satan is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. There is no good in him. He’s evil through and through.

Satan is deceitful and tries to convince people that his way is fun and fulfilling and desirable. The truth would only make them run the other way. He knows that all that is waiting is misery and death. Talk about a swell guy.

Satan is a fallen angel and has supernatural power. Some people are drawn in by that. It may look cool. But it isn’t. It’s deadly. By the time they figure that out, it is difficult to leave.

Are you entrapped in the occult? The remedy for that is the same as for all sin. Jesus is the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. (That’s those who choose to come inside the sheepfold with Him.) The perfect Son of God, He laid down His life for us, paying the penalty for our sin. When we believe and follow Him, He rescues us. We don’t have to live Satan’s way, or be afraid of him, because a child of God has only to invoke the mighty name of Jesus to send Satan and his demons packing. It’s not that they have no power. They just don’t have enough to stand against Jesus. They run from Him.

If you are tired of the life you have gotten stuck in, come to Jesus.

Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 NLT

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
