2021 National Day of Prayer

Don’t just tear your clothes to show how sad you are. Let your hearts be broken. Return to the Lord your God. He is gracious. He is tender and kind. He is slow to get angry. He is full of love. He won’t bring his judgment. He won’t destroy you.
Joel 2:13 NIRV

Many are fasting on this national day of repentance, and of course praying. Our country is in desperate need of rescue. This has to begin with individuals coming to faith in Jesus Christ. Broken hearts sincerely repenting.

Have we replaced God’s standard with society’s? That’s idolatry, and must be repented of.

Have we worshipped at the altar of material possessions and money in the bank? Is power and prestige our “high”, or is it drugs that have taken over the throne of our hearts? Also idolatry, and repentance is the only “cure” for what ails us.

What about sexual relationships? Do they honor God, within the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, or do we play our culture’s game of “fast and loose”? Many of our current societal problems stem from worldly attitudes and practices. We must repent.

Maybe our pet sin is gossip. Or a quick temper.

There are sins of the heart and mind. Speech malfunctions. What we do and where we go. Sins of commission and sins of omission.

This is why the Bible says all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We all have this predisposition to sin. God has given His perfect Son as the sacrifice so we can escape the bondage and receive His forgiveness. We must place our faith and trust in Him. Not just on that day when we came to faith in our precious Savior, but ever after walking by faith. Standing on His word against the godless culture. Protecting the throne of our hearts for only Him. And yes, repenting daily to remain in close fellowship with Him.

Let today be the day we all turn our eyes upon Jesus in complete devotion and national repentance.
