Luke 9:28-36 Transfiguration

About eight days after this conversation, he took along Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly, two men were talking with him — Moses and Elijah. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and those with him were in a deep sleep, and when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men who were standing with him. As the two men were departing from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it’s good for us to be here. Let’s set up three shelters: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not knowing what he was saying. While he was saying this, a cloud appeared and overshadowed them. They became afraid as they entered the cloud. Then a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, the Chosen One; listen to him!”
Luke 9:28‭-‬35 CSB

There are many things we could focus on in this passage. We could talk about the importance of prayer, because it is very important. We could talk about the significance of this event, because it is truly significant. But God Himself pointed out what He wanted the focus to be – Jesus! Listening to Jesus. Following Jesus. Focusing on Jesus.

In this world where many things are vying for our attention at any given moment, even when we’re alone, we must remember where our focus is to be. Jesus.

Money is not primary, although we need it to live. God will provide when our focus is on Him.

Other relationships are important and add much to our lives, but they are not primary. Jesus. Everything else is secondary. We have more to give in a relationship, as well, when Jesus is at its head.

Satan loves to counterfeit what God creates. Although God created sex, Satan has perverted it, to trip us up. Don’t be deceived. We listen to Jesus.

Food is necessary for our survival, but is not primary. As verses 9-17 point out, Jesus is the source for everything, including food.

Anything else we may think of in life is not primary. Only Jesus.

“If you don’t go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don’t deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you’ll find both yourself and me.
Matthew 10:38‭-‬39 MSG

As Jesus was transfigured before His disciples, we are being transformed into His image and likeness. By following Him. Praying as He did. Obeying as He did.

If you would like to begin this journey following Jesus, now is the time.

The message of the gospel is so simple a child may understand it. In a nutshell, it is this:

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.
John 3:16‭-‬18 NLT
