Have you ever thought about what you would do if you woke to the horror of tank fire and war?
The unthinkable has happened. Brothers have again taken up arms against brothers. Or maybe a foreign country has found a way to breach our defenses. Your children are at school. At least that’s where you left them this morning. What to do??
Have you made a list and at least begun collecting what you would need to survive? Planned where you would go? Those are important things to know. But nothing is as important as knowing where you will spend eternity, should the unthinkable happen. Do you know?
Because even the best people have a sinful nature, we must recognize this and turn from it to the Savior, Who has made the way for us to be brand new, and to experience heaven with Him when we die, instead of eternal torment.
Jesus Christ lived on earth 2000 years ago in a human body, even though He was God. He showed us how to live life His way, (for example, selflessness instead of selfishness, giving instead of getting and hoarding, loving and forgiving instead of hating). He gave His sinless self up to die a horrible death at the hands of those He came to save. (Yes, the Bible says He really did pray for those who crucified him, while they mocked, just as He prays for those today who mock.)
If the story had ended there, He would have been another would-be savior, an intriguing part of history, and nothing more.
But Jesus, after three days, rose from the tomb where He was laid, and walked out! He had already told His followers this is what would happen. Then He went back to heaven.
This is what He said about following Him:
…“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
John 14:6 NLT
There is only one Savior, and one way to reach heaven with God.
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.
John 3:16-18 NLT
Notice that we are already on our way to hell because of the estrangement our sin causes from God. We have to have a remedy from the beginning. Jesus is that remedy.
After Jesus’ death and resurrection, Peter said this,
…“Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38 NLT
And the apostle Paul stated,
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”
Romans 10:9-10 NLT
I pray you will make searching the Bible for Truth your priority, because in reality, none of us has perfect survival skills. One day we will all leave this world for the next, and the decisions we make now will determine the quality of life there. The quantity has already been decided. It is forever.
