If I were to speak with eloquence in earth’s many languages, and in the heavenly tongues of angels, yet I didn’t express myself with love, my words would be reduced to the hollow sound of nothing more than a clanging cymbal.
1 Corinthians 13:1 TPT

Have you ever stuck your foot in your mouth and, quite unintentionally, said something you immediately regretted? The words can’t be captured and taken away, as if they never happened, can they?

Or maybe we intended to say something that, once said, sounded quite different than what we had in mind?

And then there are those times (and we always hope these are in the distant past) when we purposely blurted out something hurtful. Whether in anger, or in response to something that deeply hurt us, we can’t take those words back either, unfortunately.

Speaking the truth in love. Even when that may be our goal, words have a way of getting tangled up sometimes before they make it out the door of our mouths. Today is a new day. Let’s make our words sweet, yet useful.

“Take control of what I say, O Lord , and guard my lips.” Psalms 141:3 NLT
