Saved by His Grace through our faith

Provoked mightily by all this, the Chief Priest and those on his side, mainly the sect of Sadducees, went into action, arrested the apostles and put them in the town jail. But during the night an angel of God opened the jailhouse door and led them out. He said, “Go to the Temple and take your stand. Tell the people everything there is to say about this Life.” Promptly obedient, they entered the Temple at daybreak and went on with their teaching.

Acts 5:17-20

I wonder how many jailhouse doors would be opened if God knew we would obey when told what to do? Although Peter did not expect it, and really thought he was dreaming, he obeyed. How many chains would fall off?

Sometimes we seem to think God saved us solely for our benefit, but He saved us so we would spread His message of salvation to “our hometown, country, and the whole earth”. He wants everyone to have the opportunity to be saved, and has decreed that those who are saved tell others how they may find salvation.

“The Lord is not slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but he wants all people to change their hearts and lives.”

2 Peter 3:9 NCV

Why would He move mountains on our behalf if we don’t lift a finger for Him? It is only because of His great mercy and grace that we are not consumed. Great is His faithfulness! Can others see the “family resemblance” when they look at Jesus, and then at us?
